Okay, So I’m Ready for September
I’m not liking the lack of Classical Conversations! Mondays seem so blah now, no racing around getting everyone out the door, no learning new songs, no science experiment. I..for the kids, I mean.
I guess we can review, but I’m not sure it will be the same without a little circle of friends to sing with and wiggle against. I’ve promised the boys that Dave will take them to Frankie’s if they learn all their skip counting. Maybe we’ll start reviewing that today – we didn’t get those down-pat by any means. They can do the 2′s – 5′s okay, I think, but after that it’s a train wreck. I was so focused on making sure we did other things for school, I kind of slacked on that. A lot.
We’ve been reading Story of the World, Vol. 1 (see my Goodreads link for more info) and it’s quite good! I am learning things I didn’t know. For example, like the arrogant fool I am, I thought I remembered Gilgamesh and it’s epic poem-ness…um, not so much. Did I learn anything in school?
To rectify this, I’m going to read every book on this list before I die. I better live a really long life because that’s a ton of books. But I can’t let my kids get a leg up on me in FIRST GRADE. I’m reading “The Iliad” currently, then moving on to “The Odyssey” and then a little Agamemnon. Funny, had we had the opportunity to read “Libation Bearers” in college, I think I would have been all over that one.
The highlight of my week is going to occur today: my Otterbox will be here. I got an iPhone last week and I’ve managed to keep it pristine. I will bet MONEY (like the kind that’s legal tender in the Constitution, Article 1, Sec. 8) that I spill/drop/scratch this phone before I can get the stupid Otterbox out of it’s case. Anyone have some gold or silver bullion to wager?
